Description:
Ecopsychology is a growing field in scope and relevance. Bringing that field into clinical practice has been emerging as Ecopsychotherapy, and yet for many of us clinicians the practice doesn’t get much beyond prescribing a walk outside. Let’s gather in person to learn more about Ecopsychotherapy, what you may already be doing in your practice that fits in this area, and engage experientially with your own relationship with nature. We will start indoors to share information and resources. Then we’ll have opportunities to take the learning outdoors to explore our relationship with other than human nature in this local outdoor space. So, come prepared to spend some time outside with comfortable shoes, sunscreen, hat, or outer layer depending on the predicted weather.
Educational Goals:
This course is designed to give a brief history of Ecopsychotherapy with some thoughts on how to define it. We will touch on some philosophical, historical, systemic, ecological, spiritual, social, and biological underpinnings of the field and address why this is an emerging and important modality, especially in this Presidential election year. In addition, we will share some complimentary Ecotherapies that exist and how they may be referral sources for clinicians and clients.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this presentation participants will:
- Identify the difference between Level 1 and Level 2 Ecotherapy
- Identify populations who may be helped with Ecopsychotherapy
- Have knowledge of at least 3 techniques that can be used to integrate Ecopyschotherapy into practice
Presenter:
