Description (2950 characters max)
I have worked with children, adolescents, older adults and families with a range of psychosocial, emotional, behavioral issues at all stages of development, and gained tremendous experience involving mental illness, substance abuse and fundamental attachment, abandonment, trauma, grief and loss issues.
I see a therapist’s role as a facilitator of growth and change, and to assist clients in gaining insight and clarity, increasing awareness about negative thinking, exploring innate strength, and applying their strengths in finding solutions for areas of concern. I take a primarily non-pathological view of psychotherapy and use a blend of trauma-informed, client-centered and solution-focused approach.
As a first-generation immigrant and a parent of two American-born, high-achievement adult children who were accepted into prestigious colleges, I have a special affection and rapport with children, teens and parents with the following issues: adjustment, anxiety, depression, perfectionism, self-esteem, identity development, parenting challenges, life transitions, academics concerns and cultural concerns. I am bilingual-English and Mandarin Chinese.
