Statement of Purpose
The purposes of the San Gabriel Valley Chapter of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists shall be:
- To advance marriage and family therapy as an art, a sciences and a mental health profession.
- Assist the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapist in furthering its objectives on a local level.
- To provide an educationally, emotionally and professionally supportive atmosphere for its members to grow individually and as a group.
Definition of Marriage and Family Therapist Practice
Service performed with individuals, couples, or groups, wherein interpersonal relationships between spouses or members of a family are examined for the purpose of achieving more adequate, satisfying, and productive marriage and family adjustments. such practices also include premarital counseling.
The application of marriage, family and child counseling principles and methods includes, but is not limited to, the use of applied psychotherapeutic techniques, to enable individuals to mature and grow within marriage and family, and the provision of explanations and interpretation of the psychosexual and psychosocial aspects of relationships with a marriage and family.
